Father Tom Byrnes, Pastor
Mrs. Catherine Muenkel, Principal
Administration
Catherine Muenkel is a graduate of the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. While teaching First Grade at St. Joseph’s Parochial School in Bronxville, NY, Mrs. Muenkel completed a Masters of Science Degree in Education from the College of New Rochelle with concentrations in Reading and Learning Disabilities.
After raising a family, Mrs. Muenkel returned to the teaching profession as a Third Grade Teacher here at Sacred Heart. In 1995 she transitioned to become the First Grade teacher where reading and writing were the focus of the day - Once a reading teacher always a reading teacher. She also began to assume some administrative responsibilities, becoming a test coordinator and Chairperson for the Middle States Accreditation process.
In May 2010, Mrs. Muenkel completed her studies at Iona College and graduated with a Masters in Educational Leadership. She received the Iona College Educational Leadership Award for the Class of 2010 at graduation.
Mrs. Muenkel has just begun her sixth year as principal of Sacred Heart School.
Mrs. Muenkel truly believes that Catholic education is “the gift of a lifetime” for any child. She believes that every child can and will learn if the emphasis is on learning and not teaching. Education is a journey not a race with each child learning at a different pace. We as educators must provide a learning environment that meets this growing challenge.
Our dedicated administration and faculty foster the academic, social, and spiritual development of each child. In addition to bringing enthusiasm and creativity to the daily classroom experience, our teachers offer after-school mentoring programs in Math and Language Arts, field trips, hands-on learning activities, technology integrated into the curriculum, special event days, such as Colonial Day and Field Day, summer camps in computing, reading, and math, and much more.
